Approximately 85% of European remanufacturers are small-sized companies, according to Clemens Ortgies, president of FIRM. In fact, only 5% of remanufacturers have more than 100 employees, he explained during his presentation in the ReMaTec Theater. He says the conditions in Europe are good for remanufacturers because cars are getting older and the number of cars per family is rising - but the European automotive market faces emissions restrictions. Ortgies explained that emissions regulations have to be met throughout the life of the vehicle and that engine remanufacturers are responsible for guaranteeing emissions levels in their products. In addition, after 20 years, parts cannot be remanufactured and must be purchased new.
