On January 28, Singapore celebrated the official opening of its new government-sponsored Advanced Remanufacturing Technology Centre, ARTC. Based at the CleanTech Park in the western part of Singapore, the centre is the first in Asia dedicated to testing and developing reman technologies.
"ARTC will be a game changer for the remanufacturing sector in Singapore," S. Iswaran, Second Minister for Trade and Industry and Home Affairs, said at the opening. "It seeks to develop capabilities, which will help companies in the aerospace, oil and gas, energy and automotive industries tackle the high component costs through remanufacturing."
"A worldwide focus on environmental sustainability and the resulting quest for solutions have led to the rapid growth of remanufacturing and clean technology, both of which present promising business opportunities for Singapore companies," said Minister Iswaran.
ARTC aims to promote the adoption of remanufacturing in the aerospace, oil and gas, marine, energy, automotive and engineering industries and its efforts have been met with strong support from the industry. Since the programme was first unveiled in 2012, the ARTC has welcomed 29 members on board, including EOS GmbH, IHI Corporation, Rolls-Royce plc, Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL), Siemens Industry Software and SKF. The members also include 12 local SMEs.
